Chomutov is an important industrial and energy center of the Czech Republic. Numerous chimneys and factory buildings, but also Lake Alaunsee bear witness to this. Once an active open-cast mining area, it is now a popular bathing spot. The old town is full of old town houses and magnificent churches. Chomutov is also home to the largest zoo in the Czech Republic. The route continues westwards along impressive mining landscapes to Kadan. The town is majestically situated on a rocky promontory over the river Eger. A detour to the Eger bridge is definitely worthwile. Here, you can enjoy an impressive panorama: Kadaň in the foreground and Měděnec (Kupferberg) and the summit of Klínovec (Keilberg) in the background. From Kadan, the Stoneman Miriquidi Road passes the Eger Damand leads to the next checkpoint: Klášterec nad Ohří (Monastery by the Eger).
