The Entschenkopf is a 2043 m high summit in the Allgäu alps. The tour to the summit is regarded one of the most beautiful in the region, due to its fantastic views. We hike from Reichenbach to the alpine hut Gaisalpe and to Falkenjoch and then climb the summit. We continue on a ridgeway with beautiful views of Rubihorn and the mountain lakes Gaisalpseen. You should bring a head for heights and surefootedness, climbing equipment is not necessary. We climb down over Gängele, passing the lakes Oberer and Unterer Gaisalpsee where we can enjoy a refreshing bath in the summer. At the alpine huts Gaisalpe and Untere Richteralpe we have the possibility to stop and get a snack or meal.

Turn-by-turn directions

We first take the paved road toward east from the parking lot in Reichenbach. After about 400 m we turn left onto the Tobelweg and follow the path uphill alongside the river Gaisalpbach. At the end of the ravine we pass the chapel Gaisalp-Kapelle, at the intersection we turn left and reach the alpine hut Gaisalpe over a paved road. The hut is situated on 1165 m and serves drinks and food both in the summer and the winter months. We continue on the route "Oberallgäuer Rundwanderweg". First this route is a wide gravel road, soon it becomes narrow and steeper. We cross a little forest, pass the alpine hut Rubi-Hütte and finally reach a fork after 3,6 km. We leave the route by turning right and climb further upwards on a path. First we cross an alpine meadow, which is a real sea of blossoms in the early summer. Then we cross an area vegetated with pines, from there the path becomes much more stony. Before we reach the summit of Entschenkopfs (2043 m), we have to climb over several rocks, then we have accomplished the ascent: From above we enjoy beautiful views of the peaks Sonnenköpfe, Rubihorn and the valleys of Iller and Ostrach. We continue on the ridgeway downhill and toward south. Crossing Gängele we reach an intersection and turn right, we pass both lakes Oberer and Unterer Gaisalpsee and follow the path to the alpine hut Untere Richteralpe. There we have the possibility to stop and relax with a drink or meal. We return to Reichenbach on the Tobelweg and through the valley Gaisalptal .
