Balduinseck castle ruins
The ruins come from 1325 and were built by Trier archbishop Balduin to protect his property from the Sponheimers. From the 17th century the once stately castle lost its glamour until it finally became uninhabitable in the 18th century, turning it into a ruin.
Animal Safari Park at Bell
At the new Bell Animal Safari Park you can not only stroke goats, Shetland ponies and guinea pigs but also observe local wild animals close up. The tiger enclosure in which four Siberian tigers play brings the exotic touch. There is also a play area and delicious reinforcements for young and old at the waffle café.
Kastellaun castle and house of regional history
Kastellaun castle was built as far back as the early 13th century by the Sponheim counts. The castle’s history is very varied, after its destruction in the Palatinate War of Succession, in 1815 it was controlled by the French before the Prussians overcame the regiment via the now heavily ruined walls. In 1884, the town bought the castle and it has been carefully restored ever since. The castle is now home to the Kastellaun “house of regional history” and has exhibitions that are worth a look.
Historic old town of Kastellaun
Slate, quarry stone, semi-timbered buildings and tight, narrow lanes characterise the old town of Kastellaun and give the small town of Hunsrück its picturesque character. The town is crowned by the castle ruin from the Middle Ages enthroned on a vertical rock.

EquipmentThe Saar-Hunsrück Climb is a natural path that is on soft forest floor, grass paths or alongside streams for 65% of its route. But this special quality can result in problems after long periods of rain, making parts of the route difficult to walk. We therefore recommend wearing sturdy shoes.
