Oberstaufen is a well-known spa and winter sports resort in the middle of the Allgäu Alps. There are several small ski areas around Germany's only Schroth health resort. The range of slopes is varied, with flat beginner slopes, wide carving slopes and steep downhill runs. Not far from the village of Steibis, experienced winter sports enthusiasts can take a rustic gondola lift to the 1834-meter-high Hochgrat, the highest peak in the Nagelfluh range. Two non-prepared ski routes take deep-snow fans from the mountain station down to the valley, overcoming a difference in altitude of over 800 m. Experts can enjoy nature and deep snow far away from the typical skiing hustle and bustle elsewhere. Nordic athletes run on numerous cross-country trails through the hilly Oberallgäu landscape.
Nordic/Winter hiking
Cross-country skiers have numerous options around Oberstaufen. Many of the trails are not only prepared for classic runners, but also for the skating style. The short Kalzhofer trail is well suited to get to know the Nordic sport or to run a few training laps in the evening under floodlight. Well-conditioned cross-country skiers run about 50 km from the Alpsee to the Waldsee. On the way, winter sports enthusiasts enjoy beautiful views of the Nagelfluh mountain range and the Bregenz Forest. The Imberg-Hädrich-Höhenloipe is considered to be snow-sure until spring. The area around the Hochgrat also has something to offer for tobogganing enthusiasts. Sledding fans whiz down the approximately 6 km long toboggan run from the mountain station of the Hochgrat into the valley.skiroutes
The powder snow and tobogganing area on the Hochgrat has a 4-person gondola lift. The gondola lift takes experienced powder snow skiers and freeriders up to the top station at 1708 m above sea level. The non-prepared ski route initially leads steeply down to halfway up the slope, before winter sports enthusiasts can choose between the Ahorn slope and the Eibele route, which leads in an arc past the Alpe Eibele. The Hochgrat, as the highest peak of the Nagelfluh range, is also popular with ski tourers. From there, for example, the challenging crossing of the Nagelfluhkette can be started. From the mountain station of the Hochgrat cable car, the route leads partly along narrow ridges and through narrow tubes to midday near Immenstadt. In the Hochgrat area, there are several places to stop for refreshments, such as the restaurant at the mountain station or the Staufner Haus.Public transport
